Unsuccessful (?) experiment. Impressions of a few hours in Prey

The first thing you should know: Prey – This is not a prequel, not a sequel and not a remake. This is an independent game, the action of which takes place in a separate universe. The only things uniting the original and the new game are space and aliens, and the latter are very different from those with whom we had to fight eleven years ago.

Arkane by all means tries to breathe a new life into the project, drawing inspiration in the beautiful BIOSHOCK and cult System Shock. We are promised a multifaceted story in which you are left to yourself. Receiving the next task, the players themselves decide how to get from point A to point B, and their path directly depends on the style of passage.

Wake up and sing, Mr!

At the very beginning of the game, you need to choose the floor of the protagonist, and after that you can start a complete passage. According to the developers, your choice will not affect the development of the plot or the surrounding world: the name and origin will remain the same.

Despite not the most perfect graphics, sometimes the game gives out an impressive picture.

In the yard 2032. You, Morgan Yu, wake up from the annoying signal of the alarm clock in your apartments with a luxurious view of the city. Not having time to enjoy a cup of hot coffee, you hear a call from a brother who reminds you of certain tests and asking for as soon as possible to dress and get to the helicopter. Before the exit, you can check the mail, read a couple of books, empty the refrigerator and drink a bottle of wine for courage.

Having finished important matters, we get in a helicopter and go to the service – to the Transtar Corporation, where our brother is already waiting for us. Hero testing replaces training and is a funny mini-scenes with a bit of black humor. For example, in the last test, you need to answer several questions from you, starting from simple, like “where you would go on vacation”, and ending with a moral choice. Here you need to decide how to save the people on whom the train is rushing: to rush under it yourself, do nothing or throw off the fat man on the rails.

When choosing the last option, the scientist, who monitors your trials, will say that … he would have done exactly the same. Next is a classic scene of horror films when a monster suddenly attacks someone, and you are lulling.

And here the most interesting.

You again observe the scene from the very beginning of the game: a ringing alarm clock, your apartment, a beautiful view from the window. But now messages on the computer say that you need to run, and in the lobby, instead of a living girl, her corpse lies. You get a message from a well -wisher and begin to unravel this ball of secrets.

Morgan, like the player himself, does not understand what is happening at the station, and tries to find an explanation of what is happening: study each computer, read every note, rummaging in tables and in garbage. The study of the environment is encouraged not only by small doses of useful information that can be gleaned from letters and audio days, but also with pleasant bonuses in the form of locations, rare resources and mechanisms that improve your skills.

“Where am I?"

Locations promise to be large and multi -level. Access to some zones is blocked, and here a system of skills enters the game, largely similar to the system from Dishonored 2. The so -called neuromodes (the innovative invention of Transtar Corporation), in every possible way helping to improve your skills are scattered for all locations. The procedure is painful (nobody will like it with needles in the eye!), but effective.

You can't defeat the enemy? Then coat it instantly hardening glue.

In the presented demo, three branches of skills were available to us: Scientist, Engineer and Security. This is not counting “alien” abilities, which, unfortunately, did not work out. Your choice again depends on the style of passage.

Love to break everything in a row – download the skill of a hacker, imagine yourself a master of all hands – you are mercy in the engineering branch, you want to be a strong man – increase strength. For example, instead of finding the desired code, you can simply hack the Raptor Wins sister sites dashboard, unless, of course, the skill allows. The hacking itself is presented in the form of a simple mini-game, where it is necessary to deliver a bite stream to the destination, enveloping the barriers. But if you can’t get into the closed area in the first pairs, you can still return there, because after a certain stage the entire Talos-1 station will be opened to study.

On the style

The design of the locations is worthy of a separate mention-after all, this is a project from the creators Dishonored. Players from the first minutes will recognize the work of masters from Arkane. The game takes place in a relative recent alternative future. Some facts of history were changed (for example, in this universe, President Kennedy survived the attempt), as a result of which the conquest of the cosmos was seven -mini steps. This led to the emergence of the so-called “Neodko” style-a combination of futurism with elements of styles of the 1960s and 1970s.

What is it expressed? A clear example was the aforementioned episode with testing, where, surrounded by ultra -modern equipment, all your actions are removed by an old camera. This, at first glance, a small detail creates an unusual, even enchanting atmosphere, in which different eras are perfectly combined.

Know your enemy

Do not think that a trip to the space station will be easy to walk. At every angle, facial expressions can wait for you – agile smoky creatures, sometimes reminiscent of heads. Only these creatures know how to take the form of different objects to catch you by surprise. Add high speed to this, and you will receive very annoying opponents.

We also faced with terrible phantoms. They are equally agile as small bastards, but at the same time much larger. It is better to deal with facial expressions with the help of the old good diluted key, but for aliens, a much more powerful weapon will be required. For example, a shotgun – he copes with this task with a bang.

Health problems at the beginning of the game you will definitely not experience. Boxes with first -aid kits come across quite often and you can always find what to eat or drink. Even a drinking fountain is suitable. He will add a little vital energy, but in a critical situation it can save.

Prey has a place for stealth elements, and they occupy far from the last place. For example, if you are limited in ammunition, and a couple of phantoms met you, it will be better to sneak past them. Save both resources and nerves.

By the way, the detection indicator is almost exactly copied from the Dishonored series. If you want to avoid the fight, just distract the enemy with a throw of the object or immobilize with the help of the Gloo Cannon gun, shooting with a kind of super-strength glue. Believe me, this unit will take a special place in your arsenal, because it is universal – with its help you can not only turn opponents into sculptures, but also cope with fiery and electric barriers, and even create a solid platform in order to get to hard -to -reach places.

One way or another, during the passage it feels that the game deliberately makes the player until the last not to join the battle so that you can find an alternative exit from the situation. But this does not mean at all that you can run PREY without a single murder – you still have. But as in the case of Dishonored, the number of corpses left will affect the ending.

After getting acquainted with the demo, there is almost no doubt that we will find at least a good and spectacular game with a strong plot basis. The developers will plant us at the space station, which will become a huge playground, where no one is going to drive the player by the hand. Let's hope that the project will “shoot”. For this, Prey has everything you need.
